ABOUT MELANIE JANE
Perfume, personality and nearly three decades of doing it properly.
I’m Melanie Jane Nightingale—a British perfumer, educator and writer with nearly three decades of experience across aromatherapy, natural perfumery, fragrance development and scent education.
I’ve trained in Grasse, created scent experiences for global brands, taught students around the world and collected more perfume bottles than is socially acceptable.
I teach perfumery clearly, practically and from real experience—because fragrance is complicated enough without all the scented nonsense.
How I got here
It began with a perfume-making kit from my dad when I was eight. The results were probably questionable, but the fascination never left.
In 1997, I trained in aromatherapy and holistic therapies before moving to Dubai, where that early obsession became a real business. I created products, worked directly with clients and learned the practical realities of turning scent into something people could experience, use and buy.
Advanced training at the Grasse Institute of Perfumery strengthened the technical foundations behind everything I had learned through practice. Since then, I’ve taught students around the world, delivered masterclasses and created scent experiences for international brands.
Today, I bring all of that experience into my books, courses and writing—making perfumery understandable without pretending it’s easy, mystical or reserved for a chosen few.
